Berlin is certainly rough around the edges (at least where I’ve explored so far) but it’s not without its charm. Sure, it’s got a little graffiti, and the occasional bit of vomit on the subway floor, but without that, it wouldn’t feel like a real city, would it? Germany holds a special place in my heart not only because it was the first place I traveled abroad, but because I speak German (although I wish a bit more fluently). As much as I loved Scandinavia, there’s nothing like being able to understand people in the native tongue, especially when you’ve been away from home for so long. Thankfully, Scandinavia reminded me what it’s like to be in bustling cities and how to have a good time in mediocre weather (Berlin is rainy today).
Notes from last night:
- Beware of scammers. A (supposedly) polish man asked me to help pay for his train ticket home. Uh… no?!
Notes from today:
- Avoid looking like a tourist, but not at risk of life and limb. They drive fast here in Germany. Jaywalking will get you killed.
- If you find yourself in Kurfuerstendamm, go to L’Osteria. Tasty and cheap Italian food. I can personally recommend their gnocchi with spicy shrimp.
- Rainy days can put a damper on most plans, but not a visit to the aquarium! The Berlin aquarium is a great place to spend hours. I got tons of pictures.
- If you’re in Germany, you’re pretty much obligated to get a döner. I got an excellent one in the u-bahn station near Alexanderplatz, a great place to wander around if you’re bored.
Love this post! You are an amazing writer and photographer! Keep the posts coming…..
